Car Deal of the Day: VW Passat Black Edition PHEV for £255 a month offers style on a shoestring

The Volkswagen Passat has long been a favourite for families on account of its practicality, upmarket image and refined driving manners. You can throw excellent value for money into the mix, too, judging by this deal.

Via the Auto Express Buy A Car service , DreamLease is offering the practical Passat in top-spec Black Edition trim for just £254.64 a month. That’s some real style on a shoestring.

This two-year deal requires £3,055.68 to be laid down first as a 12-month initial payment, while mileage is capped at 5,000 a year.

You could save yourself around £500 upfront by switching to a nine-month initial payment, with the monthly cost rising to £280.24. Adjusting the mileage cap to 8,000 will cost around £10 a month extra.

You might find yourself saving even more cash if you have access to a charging point at home and at work, and if you head to a charger when you’re out on the road. That’s because this is the plug-in hybrid model, and if you keep that battery topped up, you’ll be getting a lengthy 62-mile EV range and some seriously good fuel economy figures.

Black Edition is the best a Passat can be. Spec highlights include a bodykit borrowed from the R-Line model, 13-way massaging front seats and a tilting and sliding panoramic roof.

Naturally, being a Passat, there’s a quality feel inside, plus it’s a roomy car. The latest model only comes as an estate , and it’s a decent one at that; boot space is a mightily impressive 510 litres.

The big VW also drives with verve. That petrol-electric powertrain packs some punch, and a well controlled ride means the Passat is one of the most comfortable estates around.
